The Russo Bros. Are Developing a MAGIC: THE GATHERING Anime Series For Netflix
Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo have jumped on board an epic new project being developed by Netflix and Wizards of the Coast. The filmmakers have signed on to produce an anime series based on the fantasy card game Magic: The Gathering!
Netflix posted the big new on Twitter earlier this morning:

In a press release that was sent out, the Russo Bros. expressed their excitement about the series and revealed that they are lifelong fans of Magic: The Gathering.
“We have been huge fans and players of Magic: The Gathering for as long as it has been around, so being able to help bring these stories to life through animation is a true passion project for us.”
We don’t know much about the plot, but it was revealed that it will focus on the expansive world of Magic: The Gathering and its Planeswalker, which are described as “Magic’s unique magic-wielding heroes and villains as they contend with stakes larger than any one world can hold.”
This is pretty damn exciting! I love Magic: The Gathering and I couldn’t be more excited about these filmmakers bringing it to us! I have no doubt that they are going to deliver us an epic fantasy series!
The script for the series will be written by Henry Gilroy, who has worked on shows such as Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He will be joined by Jose Molina (The Tick, Agent Carter). The animation work for the show will be done by Octopie.
Isaac Krauss, CEO of Octopie had this to say in a statement:
“Working with Joe and Anthony, Wizards of the Coast, and Netflix on such a universally cherished brand is a real highlight for our studio.”
“Our goal is to not only tell a compelling story leveraging Magic: The Gathering’s incredible body of work, but to also push the medium and perception of storytelling through animation. This series will cross the genres of suspenseful thriller, horror, and drama with deeply developed characters the likes of which are not often seen in animation.”
