The Russo Bros. on Returning to Direct Next Two AVENGERS Films: “We Want to Beat Those Younger Versions of Ourselves”

The Russo brothers are no strangers to raising the stakes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, they delivered two of the biggest movies of all time, and they served as the epic culmination of a decade’s worth of storytelling.

Now, Marvel’s next massive team-up films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, are on the horizon, and Joe and Anthony Russo are returning to direct. But after already making history with their previous Avengers films, do they feel the pressure to outdo themselves?

Joe Russo responded to GamesRadar+: “Absolutely, we want to beat those younger versions of ourselves. We have to be, right? Because we have to outdo those movies in a way, or we at least have to take you on an equally engaging journey.”

Anthony Russo went on to emphasize what these films mean for them and the audience, and the audience, saying: “These movies are an incredible opportunity for us, and they’re an incredible opportunity for audiences. So we’re doing what we can to deliver the experience everyone, I think, hopes for.”

While Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars are still a ways off, the Russos have been keeping busy. Their latest film, The Electric State, is set to hit Netflix soon.

As the MCU gears up for its next big chapter, the Russos sound ready to push the boundaries and deliver a couple more great and epic Marvel movies once again. If they’re aiming to top their past work, fans could be in for something awesomely spectacular.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released in May 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled to arrive in May 2027.
