The Russo Bros. Say Disney's Live-Action HERCULES Movie Will Tell a Different Story
For the first time since it was announced that Disney would be developing a live-action reboot of its 1997 animated film Hercules, producers Joe and Anthony Russo (Avengers: Endgame) have opened up about the project and shared a little bit about how they are thinking of handling it.
While talking with Collider, the filmmakers revealed that they personally met with Disney to pitch their idea for the remake, and obviously Disney loved it. Anthony said:
“Both us and our kids are Hercules fanatics. And we had heard that Disney was interested in revisiting it and we’re in love with the original. And we made a case as to why we felt we would be right to produce that film and here we are.”
Anthony went on to tease a new take on the film that will give us a different story. He explained:
“Well, I think you always have to bring something new to the table because from our perspective as storytellers, it’s not compelling for us to do a literal translation. We’ve already done that with our Marvel films. We don’t do literal translations of the comics because we feel like if you want that story you can go read that story. We’re going to give you a different story. I think we’ll do something that’s in the vein of the original and inspired by it, but we also bring some new elements to the table.”
So, what about the music, you ask? They go on to say that the original’s memorable music “will certainly be a part of it.” However, they did stress that their movie will definitely feature a different story than the original.
While I’m a fan of the original film, I trust that the Russo Bros. will deliver a great Hercules movie. I’m totally fine with them giving us a different story. After all, the animated film exists for us to watch whenever we want, so if they are inspired to give us something different than that, I’m all for it.
What do you think about what the Russo’s are planning for the film?
