The SAVED BY THE BELL Revival Has Found Its Lead With Actress Josie Totah
The upcoming revival of the hit series Saved By The Bell has found its lead actress with Josie Totah. She has been previously seen in Glee, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Champions, as well as plenty of Disney series. The new series is set to premiere at the NBCU streamer, Peacock. The streaming service will launch in April, but we don’t have a date yet for the new Saved By The Bell.
So far, we know the series will feature original cast members Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley, who will be reprising their roles in addition to serving as producers. Hilarious actor John Michael Higgins (The Break Up, Best In Show, Pitch Perfect) will also join the cast in some capacity.
Here’s the rundown for the series, plus a character description for Totah, via Variety:
When California governor Zack Morris gets into hot water for closing too many low-income high schools, he proposes they send the affected students to the highest performing schools in the state – including Bayside High. The influx of new students gives the over privileged Bayside kids a much needed and hilarious dose of reality.
Totah will play the role of Lexi, who is described as a beautiful, sharp-tongued cheerleader and the most popular girl at Bayside High, who is both admired and feared by her fellow students.
Totah was previously credited as JJ Totah in the many acting gigs she has worked on, but has changed her name to Josie since coming out publicly as transgender in a Time essay published in 2018. She’s super cute, and I think will be a great lead in this revival.
Saved By The Bell was my absolute favorite show growing up, and I am excited to see it come back a little more up to date with some familiar faces. Are you excited for the series? Let us know below.
