The Sci-Fi Horror Novel Series NECROSCOPE Will Be Adapted Across Multiple Formats

The rights to Brian Lumley’s sci-fi horror novel series Necroscope have been picked up Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary’s Revelations Entertainment, and the plan is to adapt the series across multiple formats. The plan is two develop a show for TV, animated features, video games, graphic novels, and other emerging formats.

The novel series launched in 1980s and spans more than 19 novels and short stories. The term necroscope, as defined in the series, describes someone “who can communicate with the dead (coined Deadspeak later in the series). Unlike necromancers, who here extract the knowledge they seek by brutal eviscerations of corpses, a necroscope can communicate with them as equals: peacefully and without any physical interference. The abilities of a necroscope are defined as a type of ESP.”

McCreary (Invictus, Madam Secretary) and Gary Lucchesi (Underworld, Million Dollar Baby, Exorcism of Emily Rose) are teaming with Michael McKay (Underworld Blood Wars, The Boy) and Glenn Hetrick (Star Trek Discovery, Face-Off), who has been conceptualizing the adaptation of Necroscope since its original release for screen.

McCreary said in a statement, “The Necroscope universe allows us to explore the global themes of horror in a way never done before and is a great addition to our slate of epic, award-winning, large scale IP, which includes work by sci-fi visionary Arthur C. Clarke.”

Freeman adds, “One of the questions that has confronted humankind throughout history is – Where do stories of good and evil come from and why are they strikingly similar between different cultures throughout history?”

McKay added, “It is far too epic… and simply too good… to relegate it to a single film.
