The September Nintendo Direct Introduces SNES Library for Nintendo Switch Online Subscribers and A Lot More for Everyone
Shinya Takahashi led the Nintendo Direct that lasted for roughly 40 minutes and had quite a bit to cover. I’m just going to dive in in the order that things were revealed. If I missed anything, let me know. What are you most excited for?
Overwatch is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch. Maybe now my friends will be able to convince me to get it. The game will be available on October 15.
Luigi’s Mansion 3 was shown off with the Tomb Suites floor which takes Luigi to the pyramids. There are also other floors like a disco dance hall and pirate-themed restaurant. Also, a new game mode was revealed called, ScreamPark which will allow up to eight players to play on a single Switch. Available October 31.
Super Kirby Clash is coming to the Switch as a free-to-start game. I played this on the 3DS and it’s fun but can be a little repetitive. It will support up to four players on one system, via local play, or online. It’s available today.
Trials of Mana is getting a remake and looks pretty good. Characters will have full range of motion in this remake including the ability to jump. It will be available April 24, 2020.
Return of the Obra Dinn from 3099 has a very interesting art style and is coming to the Switch. You’ll use a cool pocket watch to manipulate time and see what happened aboard the Obra Dinn. It looks really interesting and will be available in Fall 2019.
Little Town Hero is a new game from Game Freak. The protagonist’s name is Axe and he wins by using ideas (that’s literally what they said). Almost all of the music will come from Toby Fox of Undertale. The game will be available October 16 and is now available for Pre-Order
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate confirmed Banjo & Kazooie will be coming today. They also revealed that the next fighter is coming from the NEO GEO and would be none other than Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury. Terry will be available this November! There’s still one mystery fighter, who do you think it will be? Oh, never mind, Nintendo announced that they’re already working on even more fighters. How big do you think this roster will end up being?
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening’s remake is almost out on the Switch and I still love the new art style. The direct shared a bit more about the Chamber Dungeon and how you can use amiibo to transfer dungeons to friends. It will be available September 20.
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition was also featured. The Champion’s Pack is a free piece of DLC that will be available from day 1. It will be available September 27. There’s a free demo now available though so you can try it out.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore is being brought to the Switch. I’s the same premise as the Wii U version, but some new features will be added to the Switch version including a new song and story elements. Join the fun on January 17, 2020. Pre-Purchase later today.
Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise will be available in 2020 and looks like a creepy mystery game. The original, Deadly Premonition Origins, will launch later today on the Switch.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition was announced for the Switch as well. It looks pretty cool and will support cross-saves between your Switch and Steam which is very nice. You can buy it on the Nintendo eShop today.
Bethesda revealed that for the 25th anniversary of DOOM, they’re re-releasing DOOM 64. This will be available on November 22.
High Rez Studios showed off Rogue Company, a new IP that looks really cool. It’s a 5 vs 5 online shooter. Each mercenary has a unique playstyle and is customizable. Available 2020.
Pokémon Sword & Shield shared four new features. You can customize your look in this game with a variety of wardrobe options and not just your shirt and pants. Plus, your hair can be changed, and makeup added. This is so awesome! I’ve wanted these capabilities in Pokémon games for so long! Pokémon Camp will let you play with your Pokémon which will help them “Improve in Battle.” You’ll also be able to visit other players’ camps. Curry on Rice is a popular dish that you’ll be able to make at the Pokémon Camp. Each of over 100 types can be added to your Curry Dex, but they didn’t mention any particular benefits to it. Maybe it’ll be like Pokeblocks. Two new Pokémon were also revealed. Polteageist is a possessed teapot that is a Ghost-type with the Weak Armor ability. Cramorant is a blue bird with Flying/Water typing and the Gulp Missile exclusive ability. This ability will let Cramorant get fish after using a move like Surf or Dive and if Cramorant is hit while it has the fish, it spits the fish at the opponent. Available November 15.
Nintendo Switch Online is adding the SNES library! Fans have been clamoring for this! Stunt Race FX will also be available. Finally, we got to see a beautiful looking game. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is going to be released in 2020. Monolith is bringing the original Xenoblade Chronicles to the Switch. It was not said if it’s a port or a remake, but the video did look pretty, so maybe they touched it up?
