A Sequel to Jason Statham's Giant Shark Film THE MEG is in Development and So Are Some Theme Park Rides

For those of you who enjoyed Jason Statham’s giant shark action-thriller The Meg, you’ll be happy to learn that there’s a sequel in development! The news was confirmed by executive producer Catherine Xujun Ying, who said during a recent panel:

“That is definitely the plan. It’s still in the very early stages, but we’re working on it. We’re trying to keep it secret at this time.”

Well, she’s not very good at keeping secrets because she just let the secret is out! The Meg was easily one of the most ridiculous yet entertaining films of the year. It was just such a fun movie to watch and I imagine that the sequel will end up being just as good.

That’s not all, though! Turns out, there are also discussions taking place to create Meg theme park rides! That could be fun! I’d be interested in seeing what kind of crazy rides they come up with based on this film!

According to DeadlineThe Meg 2 hasn’t hired any screenwriters yet and the movie isn’t officially greenlit by Warner Bros., but the producers feel like the sequel could very well happen:

The panel discussed how going into production, the whole notion of a U.S.-China co-production was daunting as the failures were against them (not naming pics like The Great Wall and Warcraft). Coming away from The Meg, the consensus felt like this type of feat could certainly happen again.

The Meg is the most successful U.S.-Chinese co-production ever at $527.8M world wide, which isn’t too shabby.

Are you excited to hear that a sequel to The Meg is in development!?
