The Sequel To SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE is Coming in 2022
Sony Pictures has announced that the sequel to their incredibly awesome Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse animated film is coming April 8th, 2022!
We all knew that we were going to get a sequel as the first film was both a big success at the box office and with the critics. Hell, it’s my favorite Spider-Man film! I watch it all the time and it never gets old. It has such a cool, vibrant, and unique style, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the sequel
The upcoming Spider-Verse sequel is being directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, who previously worked on shows such as Avatar: The Last Airbender and Voltron: Legendary Defender. David Callaham (The Expendables, Wonder Woman 1984) is writing the script.
We have no idea what the plot will be for the sequel for Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, but there’s so much to play with! It has been said that the story will be set two years after the events of the first film. It’s also been reported that Gwen Stacy will be involved.
I’m personally hoping that this next story will be inspired by the comic book story arc for Spider-Man/Spider-Gwen Sitting in a Tree. That story follows Miles as he is sent to Spider Gwen’s universe to save his dad. This is where the relationship between the two characters really blossoms. Here’s the description of that story:
Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy are two young heroes from different Earths, but what threat could unite the Spider-Man and Spider-Woman of the new generation? The answer will rock both their worlds! Not for the first time, Miles will find himself in another universe — and he's in pursuit of someone he holds dear. But will that description soon apply to Gwen?
