The Sequel to Stephen King's IT Moves Forward With The Hiring of Screenwriter Gary Dauberman

Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema are moving forward with the sequel to Stephen King's It! They recently hired Gary Dauberman to work on the script. He worked on the script for the first film as well as Annabelle: Creation and is also working on The Nun.

Director Andy Muschietti previously said that he insisted that there be a second film and that he wanted it to be his next movie. At the time, though the studio hadn't given the film a green light. Well, now that a script is in development and it's looking like the movie is going to have a great box office weekend, that sequel will most likely happen.

It would have been an utter shame to only see one-half of this epic story get adapted. The sequel will focus on the adult versions of the characters we will be introduced to in the first film. They will come back together years later as adults to battle It again as It begins to terroize the town of Derry again. When previously talking about the sequel Muschetti said:

”I always insisted that if there is a second part, there would be a dialogue between the two timelines, and that it would be approached like the adult life of the losers, there would be flashbacks that sort of illuminate events that are not told in the first one."

The director has not shot any of these flashback scenes, so he's "praying that the kids don’t grow up!” It was also revealed that the sequel might dive into the history of the town of Derry more. Specifically The Black Spot, which is a deadly fire that broke out at an African American barracks in Derry. There's a good chance that the sequel might open up with that story.

This first part of It opens up in theaters this weekend, so go and see it!
