The Seriously Jacked-Up Horror Thriller MIDSOMMAR is Getting an Extended Cut That's 30-Minutes Longer

Director Ari Aster’s cult horror thriller Midsommar is the most insane and jacked-up film that you will see this year. I thought it was great, but it takes a toll on you. It’s a movie going experience that just drains you. It’s a hard movie to watch due to some of the crazy and brutal subject matter, but it sure is quite the experience.

The theatrical cut of the movie already clocks in at two and a half hours! It’s a long film and there is plenty of stuff that could have been cut out. They could have easily cut out 30 minutes of the film to tighten it up. But, the director is actually cutting together an extended version of the film that will include at least 30 more minutes of footage! That will bring the the length of the film to a hefty three hours!

Aster revealed the news during a recent Reddit AMA. So, after you walked out of the movie wishing you could have seen more, you’ll be getting it! There was apparently an hour and 20 minutes of footage that ended up being cut from the film in the first place. Yes, the original cut of the movie was 3 hours and 50 minutes long!

There are no details on what this additional footage will entail, but hopefully it doesn’t involve more old naked people. The movie could definitely have had less of that. Hopefully the footage will add on to the trippy and nightmarish insanity that the main characters find themselves living in.

When asked about his plans for his next project, the filmmaker said that it will either be "a zonky nightmare comedy or a big, sickly domestic melodrama." He also added that, "Head trauma will ALWAYS have a place in my films.”

Have you seen Midsommar yet? If so, what did you think? Would you be interested in seeing a 3 hour extended cut of the film?
