The SETTLERS OF CATAN Board Game Will Be Adapted into a Movie
Wait... What? Really? I mean, Clue was a great film, don't get me wrong. It's one of my favorite movies of all time. And Battleship was.... well, Clue was great. They've been talking about turning board games into movies for years, with Monopoly, Chutes and Ladders, and Candy Land all being mentioned at one point as a serious possibility, but... Catan?
According to THR, Sony apparently bought the rights to a feature film version a couple years ago, and they are preparing to turn it into a film franchise. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are attached to produce with Blaise Hemingway writing the screenplay for the movie, of which they believe will be the first of many.
I'm guessing Settlers of Catan will be about the building of cities vs other cities being built, but isn't that just like... you know, history? That's just what happens in the world. People build and other people build against them. Why does it have to be Catan? Is Catan magical?
I mean, it could be about a group of people playing Catan and by the end of the night hate each other and threaten each other, a la, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. I've seen many a Catan game end with people ready to murder.
The last thought, which... please no, is that they get sucked into the world of Catan and have to build. This would be the dumbest of ideas. Please, don't let this be the movie. Nobody wants to see people get sucked into a world of city building.
As more news is released, we'll talk about it. What do you think? Is Catan a good starter for a film franchise? Or a good film at all? Sound off below.
