THE SHINING Star Shelley Duvall Set To Star in the Horror-Thriller THE FOREST HILLS
Shelley Duvall (The Shining, Popeye) is set to star in her first film in years! She will appear in the upcoming indie horror thriller The Forest Hills. This will be her first film project in 20 years. The movie comes from writer and director Scott Goldberg. The film also stars Edward Furlong (Terminator 2), Dee Wallace (E.T, Cujo), and Chiko Mendez. That’s quite an interesting cast!
The Forest Hills follows “a disturbed man who is tormented by nightmarish visions, after enduring head trauma while camping in the Catskill Mountains. Duvall will play the mother of the mentally and emotionally disturbed Rico (Mendez), who serves as his inner voice.”
Goldberg said in a statement: “We are huge fans of The Shining and it’s honestly one of my favorite horror movies of all time, up there with John Carpenter’s Halloween and George A. Romero’s Day of the Dead with the dark tones they delivered in their movies, along with perfect scores and elements that make them my personal favorites. Shelley contributed to The Shining being an absolute masterpiece by giving her all, and performing in a way that really showcased the fear and horror of a mother in isolation.”
It’s so cool to see Duvall coming out of retirement for an new movie! She last appeared alongside Shirley Jones, Cloris Leachman and Louise Fletcher in the 2002 comedy Manna from Heaven. She announced her retirement that same year.
DuVall resurfaced in November of 2016 in a controversial interview with Dr. Phil on his talk show, where she opened up about her struggles with mental illness saying, “I am very sick. I need help.” Many people felt she was being exploited on the show.
Regardless, I think it’s wonderful to see her take on a new acting gig after all these years.
