The Showrunner of Netflix's THE WITCHER Leaves Twitter After Major Backlash On Casting

Lauren S. Hissrich announced on Twitter that she will be taking a break from social media after facing backlash on rumors surrounding the casting of the character Ciri for the upcoming Netflix adaptation of The Witcher.

“The love here [on Twitter] is amazing, and the hate is enlightening, like a real-life Trials of the Grasses,” Hissrich wrote. “Be back soon with more insight and more Roach. Be nice to each other, okay?

The Netflix showrunner received tremendous backlash from fans of The Witcher franchise after rumors surfaced that the show’s producers were explicitly looking for a woman of color to play Ciri. Furthermore, Hissrich made it known that she won’t comment on the casting process of Ciri or of any other characters in the show until it is finalized, just as she remained silent of Henry Cavill’s appointment of playing the role of Geralt in the show.

Lastly, the showrunner believes that majority of the people who are spurring negative comments are not “trolls,” but passionate fans with strong opinions and preferences on how they want the show to look like.

Netflix’s The Witcher is based on the novels by Sapkowski, which is also the source material for CD Projekt Red’s highly successful video game franchise of the same name. The show is slated to premiere sometime in 2019.
