THE SIMPSONS MOVIE Is Getting a Sequel and It's Set for Summer 2027 - "Homer Is Coming Back for Seconds"

Woo-hoo! After two decades away from the big screen, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie are officially making their theatrical return.

Disney’s 20th Century has confirmed that The Simpsons 2 will hit theaters on July 23, 2027. The announcement came with a cheeky poster featuring a pink frosted donut and the tagline, “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”

The sequel takes the release slot once reserved for an untitled Marvel project, leaving a rare gap in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That means fans won’t see another superhero outing between Avengers: Doomsday in December 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027.

While Disney and 20th Century are keeping story details under wraps, the news alone is enough to get longtime fans excited.

The Simpsons, created by Matt Groening, has been a television staple for over three decades and remains the longest-running animated series in history. The show has already been renewed through its 40th season, set to air in 2028 and 2029, proving that Springfield’s favorite family still has plenty of stories left to tell.

The first feature film, The Simpsons Movie, debuted back in July 2007 and was a massive hit. Directed by David Silverman, the story centered on Homer causing an environmental disaster that left Springfield trapped under a giant glass dome.

That film went on to rake in $536 million worldwide on a $75 million budget, and ever since then, talk of a follow-up has lingered. Now, after years of speculation, it’s finally happening.

So grab a donut and oil up your calendars because The Simpsons 2 is coming in summer 2027, and Homer is ready for round two.
