THE SIMS Movie in Development with Margot Robbie and LOKI Director Kate Herron

A feature film adaptation of The Sims, one of the biggest and most popular games, is in development and Margot Robbie is attached to produce it. Kate Herron has been hired to direct the film, she is best known for helming the first season of Marvel’s Loki series. Herron will also co-write the screenplay with Briony Redman.

The Sims project is a hot package in Hollywood, and it is currently being shopped to studios and streamers. I have never played The Sims, but my kids have. They loved that game!

Sims is a life simulation computer game where players play as an avatar that has changeable personality traits, skills, and relationships, and goes through the mundane tasks of daily life like making dinner and decorating a home. The game is built on characters having goals and aspirations. They may also, depending on the game, build out one’s family.

The game launched in 2000, and from there the franchise expanded to include a ton of settings and tones such as vacations, show business, dating, high school life, magic, and vampires. There’s also a near-endless array of characters.

There are no details on what the film’s story will entail, but with a game like The Sims, any kind of story can be told. In a way, The Sims is similar to Barbie in that way. The game has no real narrative and features characters going about their lives. Barbie, as a toy, also has no narrative, being a doll with an endless array of careers.

It’s not hard to understand why Robbie jumped on board the project, and she obviously sees the potential. She is also joined by producers Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara, and Sophia Kerr, along with Roy Lee and Miri Yoon. Electronic Arts, which published the game, will also be involved in a creative and producing capacity.
