THE SOPRANOS Creator David Chase is Developing a Prequel Film Called THE MANY SAINTS OF NEWARK

David Chase is ready to jump into the mob world of The Sopranos again! He wrote a script for a Sopranos prequel film called The Many Saints of Newark and New Line Cinema just bought the screenplay!

The story for the prequel is set in the era of the Newark riots in the 60s. "That was a time when the African-Americans and the Italians of Newark were at each other’s throats, and amongst the gangsters of each group, those conflicts became especially lethal."

In case you were wondering, yes, some of the characters from the will appear in the film. Obviously, they will be younger versions. According to Deadline, "the time period indicates there will be room for Tony Soprano’s father, Giovanni “Johnny Boy,” the former captain of the Soprano crew (played in flashbacks by Joseph Siravo), and a younger version of his wife Livia (played indelibly in the show’s first season by Nancy Marchand), and Tony’s uncle Junior, played by Chianese."

I am a huge fan of The Sopranos series so I'm pretty pumped up that we are getting this film! Even though we don't really have any story details, the setting of the film, and the fact that this is actually happening is enough to get fans excited!

Chase will serve as a producer on the project as well as a co-writer with Lawrence Konner, and he will be involved in selecting a director. Warner Bros Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich had this to say in a statement:

"David is a masterful storyteller and we, along with our colleagues at HBO, are thrilled that he has decided to revisit, and enlarge, the Soprano universe in a feature film."

What do you think about The Sopranos getting a prequel film?
