THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: IT'S A WONDERFUL SPONGE To Be An All CGI Origin Story

The Spongebob Squarepants franchise is getting its 3rd film, and this time, it’s going to be all CGI. That’s right The Spongebob Movie: It’s A Wonderful Sponge will not utilize traditional 2D animation and is said to be an homage to the classic film It’s A Wonderful Life.

Here’s a breakdown of what the film will be about in the words of Paramount Animation president Miriella Soira (via Cartoon Brew).

For the first time ever, we're going to get to the origin of how little SpongeBob met the rest of the Bikini Bottom gang at summer camp. The film's opening will take place at Camp Coral when all of our favorite characters meet for the first time.

That doesn’t sound a lot like It’s A Wonderful Life, but I’m guessing this means Spongebob will get shown by some supernatural entity what life would be like had he never made friends with the residents of Bikini Bottom.
