The STAR TREK Inspired BLACK MIRROR Episode "USS Callister" Could Get a Spinoff Series

One of my favorite Black Mirror episodes in Season four was the Star Trek-inspired episode "USS Callister". It was so good and it went into a crazy awesome direction that I didn't see coming at all! If you haven't seen it yet, I won't ruin it for you, but I will say that Jesse Plemons gives an incredible performance as a James T. Kirk-like character named Captain Daly, who fearlessly leads his crew on adventures to help protect the galaxy. If you haven't seen the episode yet, there's a huge surprising twist to this story that I think you'll love.

If you have seen the episode, you'll be happy to hear that there's potential for a spin-off series! While talking to THR in a recent interview, director Toby Haynes was asked about a possible sequel, and this was his reply:

"I was talking with Louise Sutton, who produced this and 'Metalhead,' and she cooked up a brilliant idea of spinning it off into a TV series. I’d love to do a TV series of 'USS Callister' — it’s probably one of the best pilots for a space show ever. And I made it! So I’m keen to see it as a TV series. I think Charlie might revisit it as a Black Mirror. Whether I’m the one to do it, I don’t know. Being a fan of the show as much as I am, and being a part of making it, I’d love to work with that crew and cast again. It’s a gift for a director."

He goes on to reveal the basic idea for the spinoff series. But, if you haven't watched the episode yet, you probably won't want to read the details because it spoils the ending. Haynes says:

"That’s the fun of it, isn’t it? That’s what this idea is. There is this brilliant idea that he is still alive, and his attempted murder gets pinned on someone. Whose fingerprints do they find in the apartment? There’s so much you could do. Fingers crossed, you never know."

I hope that this spinoff happens! As soon as the episode ended I wanted to see the story continue! The fact that there's talk of it possibly happening at some point is great! Would you watch a spinoff series based on USS Callister?
