The STAR WARS: ANDOR Series Reportedly Already Renewed for Season 2
Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Andor series might just be the least exciting Star Wars project that’s in development right now. The 12-episode series is set five years before the events of Star Wars: Rogue One in the early days of the Rebellion against the Empire and is described as a “tense nail-biting spy thriller.” It will see the return of Diego Luna in the title role of Cassian Andor, one of the most uninteresting characters from that film.
The movie will tell Andor’s adventurous story set during the formative years of the Rebellion. I hope this series exceeds expectations, but regardless, Disney and Lucasfilm seem super happy with how Season 1 turned out, and they are reportedly already going to start working on Season 2.
During a recent interview with Dagens Nyheter, co-star Stellan Skarsgård shared, "We start with [filming Dune: Part Two] in July. And then in the autumn, it's time for the second season of the Star Wars series Andor. I do not know when they will start broadcasting it. It will take some time so that it does not take too long between season one and season two."
Luna previously talked about the series teasing, "You'll definitely see familiar faces. I can tell you about this project like no other because I can't spoil the ending if you've seen [Rogue One] already. No matter what I say, I can't ruin the ending."
The series also stars Genevieve O’Reilly, who will reprise her role as Mon Mothma (Rogue One, Tin Can), Denise Gough (Collett, Angels in America), and Kyle Soller (Anna Karenina, The Titan), and it was also previously announced that Stellan Skarsgard (Thor, Good Will Hunting), along with Adria Arjona (6 Underground) and Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve), Denise Gough (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt), Kyle Soller (Poldark), and Robert Emms (Chernobyl) in undisclosed roles. Jimmy Smits and Alistair Petrie are also joining the show as Bail Organa and General Draven. The there’s Forest Whitaker who will reprise his role as Saw Gerrera, and Ben Mendelsohn, who portrayed Imperial Director Orson Krennic, is rumored to return. Alan Tudyk will eventually join the series as his droid character K-2SO, but he will not appear in the first season.
The series was written by Tony Gilroy, Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler), Beau Willimon (House of Cards), and Stephen Schiff (The Americans). Gilroy will also serve as showrunner.
The first season of Andor is set to premiere at some point in 2022.
