The Story of How Natalie Portman Signed on for THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Six Months Ago

One of the biggest and most awesome surprises at the Comic-Con panel this past weekend was when Natalie Portman walked out on stage announcing the she would be reprising her role as Jane Foster as well as the new female Thor!

Turns out Portman signed on to star in the film six months ago! I’ve gotta say, Marvel Studios did a hell of a job keeping the cat in the bag. I can’t believe it didn’t leak! Fans thought it would be cool to see Portman come back and play the female version of Thor, but a lot of fans didn’t think it would happen.

Portman teased that she will be getting “jacked” for the role, and it’ll be awesome to see her back in action and wielding Mjolnir! So how this this all come together? How did Portman find herself back at Marvel?

During an interview at ET, Kevin Feige said that Portman has “always stayed in contact with” Marvel, so it wasn’t hard to set up a meeting between her and director Taika Waititi. Waititi has been wanting to play with Jane Foster as Thor for awhile. Ever since he was reading the Thor comics while prepping for Thor: Ragnarok. Heat Vision said that when the filmmaker was reading Jason Aaron’s comic run that featured female Thor, he wanted to tell a story with her.

Feige went on to say, “One of the ideas, and perhaps the biggest, was the idea of Jane. We set Natalie and Taika up and in one meeting she agreed to do it.”

So, it didn’t really take much to sell her on coming back. She obviously loved whatever idea Taika pitched to her, and it’s gonna be so rad to see what his vision for the next film will be. I’m sure it will be filled with humor, action, an all kinds of glorious Marvel fantasy epicness! I hope it’s as badass as the logo that was released!

Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters on November 5, 2021.
