THE STRANGERS: CHAPTER 3 Teaser Trailer Drops as the Franchise Faces Critical Slaughter
Not even a month after The Strangers: Chapter 2 hit theaters, the third and final film in the horror trilogy has already surfaced with its first look.
The teaser for The Strangers: Chapter 3 is actually the post-credit scene from Chapter 2, which has now been released online.
The footage features Madelaine Petsch’s Maya sitting in a car beside Sheriff Rotter. “I know where they are,” she says, before the Sheriff flashes an unsettling grin.
What follows is pure carnage, as the masked killers wreak havoc in a grimy roadside motel. Scarecrow, also known as Man in the Mask, can be seen hacking away and something with an axe next to a terrified victim.
But there’s an interesting twist. Maya appears inside the motel room, standing beside the killers and wearing Pin-Up Girl’s mask. At first glance, it looks like Maya might have joined their ranks, but if you look closely, her hands are tied with rope, so it seems like she is being forced to watch another brutal killing.
Directed by Renny Harlin (Deep Blue Sea), The Strangers: Chapter 1 introduced audiences to Maya and her boyfriend Ryan, whose quiet night in a remote cabin turns into a nightmare when they’re hunted by three masked strangers. Ryan doesn’t make it out alive, but Maya does… barely.
In The Strangers: Chapter 2, the killers return after learning Maya survived, setting off another round of terror. Maya, now more defiant and desperate, goes on the offensive, determined to unmask her tormentors and end their reign of terror.
Now, The Strangers: Chapter 3 looks to close out the trilogy with Maya confronting the killers for the final time. The official synopsis teases, “Maya faces the masked intruders one last time – uncovering chilling secrets that turn survival into a reckoning.”
The trailer comes just weeks after Chapter 2’s disappointing run at the box office. According to Box Office Mojo, the sequel brought in $14.6 million worldwide on an $8.5 million budget. Not a total disaster, but a major drop compared to The Strangers: Chapter 1, which earned $48.2 million.
Critics haven’t been kind to the trilogy, either. The first film scored 21% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Chapter 2 dropped even lower with a rough 14%. That’s a far cry from Bryan Bertino’s 2008 classic The Strangers, which remains a cult favorite among horror fans.
Alongside Petsch, The Strangers trilogy features Richard Brake, Rachel Shenton, George Young, Kyle Breitkopf, Janis Ahern, Krystal Ellsworth, Pablo Sandstrom, Brian Law, Leo Petrus, Joel Labelle, Nola Wallace, Stephanie Aubertin, and Jake Cogman.
The Strangers: Chapter 3 doesn’t yet have an official release date, but from the looks of this teaser, Maya’s nightmare is far from over.
