THE SUICIDE SQUAD Actor Joel Kinnaman Was Asked If He'd Be in PEACEMAKER Season 2 and He Said, "I Would Never Be On a Show Like That"
Joel Kinnaman was one of the few actors who made the jump from David Ayer's 2016 film Suicide Squad to return for James Gunn's revamped The Suicide Squad, but his character, Rick Flag, unfortunately wasn’t in the minority of antiheroes that survived the flick. Flag was killed by Peacemaker (John Cena) after threatening to leak the Starro files, and everyone assumed this was the last time we’d see the military man.
Then, earlier this year, Peacemaker Season 2 director Peter Sollett tagged Joel Kinnaman in his social media post announcing that he'd completed filming his episodes, seemingly confirming that the actor was set to reprise his role for the Max spin-off series.
So it was natural for Screen Rant to ask Kinnaman about this during an interview with the actor about his new movie, The Silent Hour, to which the actor gave a surprisingly blunt response.
"I don't know what to say. That's ridiculous. I would never. I would never be on a show like that. It's not what I do. It's not what I do."
This means one of two things- Kinnaman was trying to throw fans off and make them think he wasn’t returning to the role, even though he is. Or, he really believes he is above the series, and wouldn’t think of making an appearance.
But this seems so absurd, because how is Peacemaker that different from The Suicide Squad? It’s really not, so I’m hoping it’s just the first option. I guess we will just have to wait and see when Peacemaker season 2 returns to MAX in 2025.
