THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE Drops Fun Star Fox Anime Clip Featuring Glen Powell’s Fox McCloud

Nintendo and Illumination are clearly having some fun with fans right now. Just days after The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hit theaters, a slick new clip has landed online showcasing one of the film’s coolest surprises.

We’re talking about Fox McCloud making a full-on anime-style entrance into Mario’s universe.

The sequel already teased the inclusion of Glen Powell as Fox, but this new footage leans all the way in. The clip highlights Fox swooping in with that signature Arwing pilot swagger, instantly winning over Toad and pretty much stealing the spotlight in the process.

What really hits, though, is the unexpected anime sequence. The clip dives into Fox’s backstory with a completely different visual style, giving fans a look at how he ended up stranded in Mario’s galaxy. It’s a fun shift in tone, and, it leaves you wanting a whole movie like this!

In the scene, Fox opens up about being separated from his crew, explaining how he’s stuck far from Slippy, Peppy, and Falco. That little tease alone adds a surprising emotional layer to the character, especially for longtime Star Fox fans.

After watching this clip, I would love to see an anime-style Star Fox spinoff movie!

Turns out, this crossover almost didn’t happen at all. According to reports, Powell actually reached out himself to make this happen, calling it his “dream” to step into a Star Fox project.

Meanwhile, Shigeru Miyamoto shared that there were concerns internally about bringing Fox into the Mario universe. He previously explained that he expected “significant” resistance to the idea.

Surprisingly, that pushback never really materialized, though he did pump the brakes on any expectations of a full Smash Bros.-style crossover happening anytime soon.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is already crushing it. The film pulled in $190 million domestically over its five-day opening and has rocketed to $370 million worldwide.

Whether this is the start of something bigger for Star Fox, or just a one-off cosmic detour, one thing’s clear. Fans loved the anime sequence, and if Nintendo is paying attention, there’s a Star Fox movie waiting to happen.
