The Team Behind Netflix's THE TOYS THAT MADE US is Developing a Spinoff Called THE MOVIES THAT MADE US

For those of you who enjoy watching the Netflix series The Toys That Made Us, you might be happy to learn that there’s a spinoff series coming called The Movies That Made Us. The series will use the same format that they’ve been using for the Toys series, but it will focus on the movies that we grew up with!

The first season of The Movies That Made Us will specifically deal with films from the 80s and those films will include Die Hard, Ghostbusters, Dirty Dancing, and Home Alone. Yeah, I know that Home Alone was released in 1990, but they decided to squeeze it in with the other 80s films anyway.

While talking about the new series with Den of Geek, creator Brian Volk-Weiss explained, “For Home Alone, we wanted a comedy. That was one thing. We really wanted to do a holiday movie. This show is coming out right around Thanksgiving and we really wanted a holiday vibe. Die Hard obviously is also, to a certain extent, a holiday film.”

Volk-Weiss said he wanted to interview people that were involved with the specific movies, but they didn’t get everyone they were hoping for:

“In the toy world, you largely had all these people who changed culture, who kind of no one cared about. So they were dying to talk to us. Bruce Willis has been talking about Die Hard for 30 years. So, we didn’t get Bruce Willis. We tried, we didn’t get him.”

Volk-Weiss also tried to get Bill Murray for the Ghostbusters episode of the series, but that didn’t work out. However, he did get Dan Akroyd and director Ivan Reitman.

Like The Toys That Made Us, this spinoff series, The Movies That Made Us, is sure to tap into those wonderful nostalgic feelings we love to have. There are so many different kinds of movies to cover in a series like this! They could easily do 5 to 10 seasons just going through 80s films! It’d be nice to see them also cover some lesser-known films that we grew up with.

There’s no official release date yet for The Movies That Made Us, but it’s set to premiere before the year is over.
