The Title For DC's THE SUICIDE SQUAD Was Jokingly Suggested By James Gunn
James Gunn offered a fun little tidbit of information regarding his upcoming film The Suicide Squad. During a Q&A session he held on Instagram, the filmmaker was asked if the movie's title has the potential to be changed in the future. Gunn’s response to that question offered a funny little story behind how the title of the film came about.
It turns out The Suicide Squad was suggested by Gunn as a joke, but the studio ended up liking it:
“I brought it up kiddingly once and Warners and the producers liked it. There’s not much chance of changing it, but you never know.”
It’s funny how things work out. While Gunn wasn't seriously pitching The Suicide Squad as the title for his film, the executives and the producers responded to it in a very unexpected way. And just like that, The Suicide Squad got its title.
We don’t know much about The Suicide Squad as Gunn is keeping almost everything about it under lock and key. He’s explained that the tone of the film will be different from the other DC films that have been made, though.
The Suicide Squad cast includes Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, Pete Davidson, Idris Elba, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Michael Rooker, David Dastmalchian, Storm Reid, Taika Waititi and John Cena.
The film is set for release on August 6th, 2021.
