The Trailer for Radu Jude’s DRACULA Promises the Wildest, Weirdest Vampire Movie Ever Made

Romanian filmmaker Radu Jude has made a cinematic fever dream with his adaptation of Dracula, and it looks like the most chaotic and bonkers take on the classic vampire mythos we’ve ever seen.

The new US trailer, released by 1-2 Special, teases a film that’s part satire, part horror, part AI experiment, and 100% insane.

So what exactly is this Dracula about? Even the film’s own description is an adventure in itself. Here’s how it was introduced at the Locarno Film Festival:

“A Dracula film made in Transylvania. What does it contain? A vampire hunt. Zombies & Dracula crashing a strike. A sci-fi story about Vlad the Impaler coming back. An adaptation of the first Romanian vampire novella. A love story. A montage film reusing a classic vampire film. A vulgar folktale. AI-generated kitsch stories. And many delights in a film dealing with this cinema myth.”

That sounds like cinematic chaos.

The movie follows a frustrated filmmaker suffering from creative paralysis who turns to an AI chatbot for help making his next hit. Naturally, things spiral out of control.

The result is a wild series of vignettes that dive into every possible version of the Dracula legend, from a union-busting vampire interrupting a workers’ strike to surreal romantic tragedy and fields of, well… phalluses.

It’s an outrageous blend of tones and genres, and the fact that it includes AI-generated sequences was used as a form of commentary on its absurdity, not as a crutch for creativity.

The film stars Adonis Tanța, Oana Maria Zaharia, Gabriel Spahiu, Ilinca Manolache, Alexandru Dabija, Andrada Balea, Doru Talos, Lukas Miko, Serban Pavlu, and Alexandra Harapu.

If you’re expecting another moody Gothic retelling of the Dracula story, forget it. This is something else entirely.

Radu Jude’s Dracula is now available to watch.
