The True Identity of Jude Law's CAPTAIN MARVEL Character Revealed Thanks to Funko POP!
Thanks to a line-up of Captain Marvel Funko POPS!, we have some new information regarding the true identity of Jude Law’s character.
Everyone just assumed that he would be playing Mar-Vell in the film. Even Steven Colbert previously tried to get the information out of the actor saying:
"I thought you were Mar-Vell. You are not Mar-Vell."
To which Law replied:
"I can't tell you who I am, nice try.”
When Law previously talked about his character in a separate interview, he said:
"He is driven by a belief in the divine leadership of the Kree people. So he’s almost a devout warrior — unquestioning, conservative, but inspirational."
Well, if you want to know the secret role that Law is playing, then read ahead. If you want to be surprised until you watch the movie, then:
Again, there is a major spoiler ahead. Before we go on, here’s the photo showing off the Captain Marvel Funko POPS!:
This image reveals that Law is playing the Kree commander Yon-Rogg, who is a villain that does not like Mar-Vell and has tried made attempts to kill him. In the comics, he actually stranded Mar-Vell on earth and was indirectly responsible for Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) acquiring her abilities.
So, it looks like Jude Law could end up being the true villain of the story even though Marvel has been marketing him as a heroic ally to Carol Danvers.
Yon-Rogg will most likely be the bigger threat to Earth than Ben Mendelsohn's Talos and the Skrulls. I’ve actually heard that Captain Marvel will end up helping the Skrulls in the film and not fighting against them.
It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out!
The film is set in 1995 and follows Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The resulting alteration imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection, and flight. The Skrulls will also play a major part of the story as they will be invading Earth and Captain Marvel will either have to fight them or help them.
Kevin Feige also explained that this movie will offer a very different kind of origin story that he’s excited to show us.
Captain Marvel is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind). The most recent script comes from Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider). The film also stars Clark Gregg, who will reprise his role as Agent Coulson, and Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou, who will be back as the Kree villain Ronan the Accuser and his henchman Korath the Pursuer.
The movie is set to be released on March 8th, 2019.
