The TV Show COPS Has Been Canceled at Paramount Network
When I was growing up in the early 90s, I watched the TV show Cops all the time. My friends and I even made our own little parody videos at the time. We were basically filming ourselves playing cops and robbers. I haven’t watched the show in years, though.
The series Cops originally premiered on Fox in 1989 where it ran for 25 seasons. In 2013, Spike TV picked up the series for new episodes. That network was eventually rebranded as Paramount Network in 2018, and they have officially canceled the series after it came under fire in recent years for its depicts law enforcement and questionable behind the scenes practices. A spokesperson said in a statement:
“‘Cops’ is not on the Paramount Network and we don’t have any current or future plans for it to return.”
It was also announced that A&E removed a similar show titled Live PD from its schedule “out of respect for the families of George Floyd and others who have lost their lives.” That series follows cops and sheriffs live, in real time, as they patrol various cities and counties across the country.
It’s not really a surprising move from the networks, especially with a lot of people hating on police officers right now. I’m not going to get into that as you can see it all over the news and on social media. Everyone has different opinions on the matter, and I’m sure many people will want to talk about it in the comments. If you do, please keep it civil. When debating these things it’s important to listen to both sides. Even though people don’t agree with each other on certain things, we can still be kind to each other.
