The Upcoming G.I. Joe SNAKE EYES Film May Be Directed By Robert Schwentke
In case you forgot, Paramount Pictures is still planning to make a new G.I. Joe movie and the last we heard is that movie will focus on the fan favorite character Snake Eyes.
According to Variety, the studio is in talks with Robert Schwentke to direct the film. Schwentke has been hit and miss with some of his previous projects. Some of those films include Red, The Time Traveler’s Wife, R.I.P.D., Insurgent, Allegiant, and The Captain, which was a great film!
The script for Snake Eyes is being written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, who previously wrote Beauty and the Beast and The Huntsman: Winter’s War.
I’m on board with the idea of Snake Eyes getting his own movie. I hope that this movie will serve as a reboot to the G.I. Joe film franchise. I’m not a big fan of the previous two films, and I’ve felt that the studio really needs to start from scratch. This could be the start of a strong franchise if they actually handle it right this time!
Snake Eyes is known for his all-black ninja look, and he doesn't speak. Here's a little background on the character.
One of the few mysterious and the more dangerous members of the G.I. Joe Team, Snake-Eyes served as a recon ranger in the jungles of Southeast Asia. All that can be said after that stint is he went on a long sabbatical, most believe it was in Japan. Some say he was training with the same ninja clan that begat Storm Shadow. We know his fighting skills have become more efficient and deadly. Rumors surfaced that when he was recruited into the Joe Team by Hawk, he was hunting rabbits at the time... with his bare hands.
The character also has a special relationship with Scarlett, and sometimes he carries out solo missions with his pet wolf, Timber.
I think Schwentke is actually a decent choice to direct the film. I think the film has a decent shot with him as the director and I’m making that judgement off of Red and his last film The Captain.
What do you think about the possibility of Schwentke directing Snake Eyes? What would you like to see from this film?
A few years ago I wrote out my pitch of how G.I. Joe should be handled and you can read it here if you want.
