The Upcoming STAR WARS: THE HIGH REPUBLIC Books and Comics Will Not Tie Into Any Upcoming Movies or TV Shows
Early this week, the mysterious Project Luminous that Lucasfilm has been teasing for months was revealed to be a line of novels and comics that will explore the High Republic era in the Star Wars universe. This is roughly 200 years before the events of The Phantom Menace.
Prior to this big reveal, it was rumored that Lucasfilm would be developing a series of films set during this era as well, but maybe that isn’t actually the case. Following the big reveal, a press release went out that mentioned the following:
"This period on the Star Wars timeline will not overlap with any of the films or series currently planned for production, giving creators and partners space to tell Star Wars stories in a never-before-explored timeline."
It makes sense that they would want to give the creative team the space and freedom to explore this era, but at the same time, it would have been cool to see some films set during this era as well!
It was previously explained that the High Republic was "a golden time. A time of peace and prosperity. A time when the Jedi really are galactic guardians, stewards of peace and justice." The initiative was also described as the "Jedi Knights of the Round Table" at a time featuring "space Vikings.”
Star Wars stories that focus on the Republic and Jedi Order when they were at their peak will be incredibly fun to dive into. I’m looking forward to seeing this era explored. Who knows, maybe one day the movies set during this time will come.
