The Utah Film Critics’ Association Names SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Best Film of 2018

I know you’ve all been hearing that Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is a great film. Critics and audiences are loving it! I’ve said that I think it’s one of the best films of the year, and I think it deserves award recognition beyond Best Animated Film. This movie is just an all-around great movie that tells a great story.

If any superhero/comic book film gets nominated for a Best Picture Oscar this year, it’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. I prefer this movie over Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War.

This movie took the superhero genre to new heights! Not only in the unique and cool animation style, but in the wild, inspirational story it told and the script that told it. It also celebrates cultural diversity as we watch a young man who beats all the odds rising up to be the hero he is meant to be, even in the face of those who lacked faith in him. I just don’t see how anyone could walk out of this movie and not love it.

The Utah Film Critics’ Association seems to feel the same way as they have have awarded the film with Best Picture of 2018. They also awarded it with Best Animated Feature, and they gave screenwriters Phil Lord and Rodney Rothman the award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

I really hope that other movie award organizations recognize this and that they also have the sense to include it in their Best Picture Award nominations. I would love to see this get a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars. Unfortunately, the Oscars have been making some pretty stupid decisions these days, so I won’t hold my breath.

What do you all think? Do you think it has a chance?
