THE VOYAGE OF DOCTOR DOLITTLE Recently Finished Extensive Reshoots

One of Robert Downey Jr.’s next big roles is as the physician that can speak with animals, Doctor Dolittle. The film, The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, was being directed by Stephen Gaghan, but according to a new report from THR, his version of the film fell short. This led to Universal bringing in Chris McKay and Jonathan Liebesman to help polish some things up and they just finished 21 days of reshoots and now it looks like the post-production work is going to begin. These reshoots are the main reason why the release date was pushed from an April 12, 2019 release to a January 17, 2020 release.

A source said the following regarding the change of hands:

Gaghan needed help with the animal component of it all. These two guys who had expertise in that field, and they came in to help.

Downey isn’t the only big star in The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle. He will be joined by Antonio Banderas, John Cena, Marion Cotillard, Frances de la Tour, Carmen Ejogo, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez, Tom Holland, Rami Malek, Kumail Nanjiani, Craig Robinson, Michael Sheen, Octavia Spencer, and Emma Thompson.
