THE WALKING DEAD Characters Maggie and Negan to Star in Manhattan-Based Spinoff Series ISLE OF THE DEAD
Fans of The Walking Dead have been given a bit more information on one of the show’s spin-off series that will be headed our way next year. The show is titled Isle of the Dead, and it takes place in Manhattan, New York, where it will follow two of the flagship series’ stars in an unlikely pairing. The characters Negan (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) will star in the show, which is surprising, as their history began with Negan brutally murdering Maggie’s husband Glen (Steven Yeun). Negan’s character was eventually captured and jailed, and Maggie left the group for a time. When she returned, Negan had rehabilitated and redeemed himself, but Maggie was pretty sure she was going to kill him. It’s been a messy road. But it will be interesting to see where they go from here.
Talking about the series, Morgan said in a statement:
“I’m delighted that Negan and Maggie’s journey continues. It’s been such a ride walking in Negan’s shoes, I’m beyond excited to continue his journey in New York City with Lauren. Walkers in an urban setting has always been such a cool image, but 5th Avenue, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty? The greatest city in the world?? The backdrop is amazing, but it’s the story that Eli Jorné cooked up that is even better. Buckle up folks, Isle of the Dead is going to reinvent the TWD Universe. Huge thank you to Dan McDermott, Scott Gimple and AMC for having us back for more… we simply can’t wait.”
Cohan also made a statement about the series, saying:
“I’m thrilled to partner with Dan McDermott and the team at AMC on the next chapter in The Walking Dead Universe. Maggie is very close to my heart and I’m excited to continue her journey against the iconic backdrop of New York City, alongside my friend and collaborator, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Eli Jorné has created something incredibly special and I cannot wait for the fans to see what we have in store for Maggie and Negan.”
As both actors mentioned, Eli Jorné, an executive producer and writer on The Walking Dead, is the showrunner for the series. No other details have really been released for it, but I do think it sounds like a cool series, and like a totally different setting for the characters. Are you looking forward to Isle of the Dead?
