THE WALKING DEAD’s Daryl Dixon's Sexual Orientation Revealed
There’s been a lot of discussion among fans and online regarding Daryl Dixon’s sexual orientation on The Walking Dead. A lot of people seemed to believe that his character was gay, and there was a lot of chatter from people involved with the series that made fans believe that.
Back in August a fan asked Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman if Daryl Dixon was gay. He gave his answer in the back of issue #130 of The Walking Dead comic book series, saying, "It’s been discussed." Not long after that, series showrunner Scott M. Gimple said Daryl's sexuality would not be addressed in season five. Then Norman Reedus revealed that former showrunner, Frank Darabont, did have discussions about this and that they wanted Daryl to be "prison gay." Kirkman has now put this all to rest during the recent episode of The Talking Dead, in which he reveals that Daryl is straight. This is what he said:
“Daryl Dixon is being somewhat asexual on the show, he’s a very introverted character and I think that’s somewhat his appeal… I just wanted to make it clear that the possibility is there and I would’ve been fine with it, the network would have been fine with it, but we ultimately didn’t do that. I can make it official, Daryl Dixon is actually straight, but coming back in the next half of the season we’re going to be introducing a very prominent gay character from the comics that’ll be debuting.”
So there it is. Gay or straight, Daryl is one of the best and most badass characters in the series. Hopefully they don’t kill him off… ever.
