The WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS Spin-off Series is Drawing Inspiration From THE X-FILES
If you're a fan of Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement's hilarious film What We Do In The Shadows, we've got some great new information on the spin-off series to share with you! I love that they are continuing to build on this comedic supernatural world! The series will be called Wellington Paranormal, and it's separate from the sequel that's in development called We're Wolves.
During an interview with Stuff, Jermaine Clement revealed that the first season of the series will consist of six 30-minute episodes. The story will center around the detective characters Mike Minogue and Karen O’Leary, who were introduced in What We Do In The Shadows. They will be patrolling the streets of Wellington, New Zealand in search of nefarious supernatural activity hunting out ghosts, werewolves and demonic possessions.
Producer Paul Yates went on to confirm that Wellington Paranormal be shot in a documentary-style like the movie and that it is drawing inspiration from The X-Files. There will also be some supernatural characters from What We Do in the Shadows making an appearance in the series.
Clement when on to joke about what it's like to shoot this series in this supernatural world and described an incident they had involving zombies while filming:
“We had an incident with some zombies which got pretty tense there. So luckily they’re taken care of. A couple of crew members were turned into zombies – I think. It’s hard to tell sometimes. Also, some very worrying things have happened in Lower Hutt as well. There was a party in Khandallah that got a bit out of hand, too, with some undead member of the Wellington public.”
Wellington Supernatural is scheduled to premiere on TVNZ 2 sometime next year. I'm sure it will eventually make it's way to the states. This is a series I'm super excited about, and I can't wait to see how it tuns out! It sounds like it will be a ton of fun!
