THE WITCHER Author Says He Gives the Series Creative Team Ideas "But They Never Listen to Me"
The Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski recently offered up some thoughts on Netflix’s series adaptation of his work. During a recent interview at Vienna Comic Con with Cerealkillerz, the writer was asked if he gave any input on the show when he visited the set. While he was truly impressed with the set, he explained that the show’s creative team wasn’t interested in his ideas for the show. He said:
"Well the set was tremendous, it was so wow, everything. But no, maybe I gave them some ideas, but they never listen to me. They never listen to me, but it’s normal, 'Who’s this? It’s the writer, it’s nobody.'"
Sapkowski also shared how it’s a strange experience for him to see adaptations of his work, saying:
"Every adaptation that I saw was strange for me, that’s the right word I suppose, strange. Every visual adaptation is strange for me. I look at it and say, 'Woah, that’s how they picture it? Interesting.' Sometimes the impression of the visual is very nice for me, sympathetic. Sometimes it isn’t, but I will not elaborate."
It’s so crazy to me that these people have the creator of these stories and characters at their disposal, and in the end, they push him aside and won’t listen to the input that he has to offer. It’s ridiculous. You’d think they’d take advantage of that resource to help make the best show possible. But, nope.
Henry Cavill was the guy fighting for Sapkowski’s vision, and now he’s gone and was replaced with Liam Hemsworth in the upcoming fourth season. I don’t have much hope for the future of this franchise. You can definitely tell that aspects of Season 3 suffered from the creative differences. We’ll just have to wait and see how things go, but I’m not expecting much.
What do you all think!?
