THE WITCHER Has Cast KILLING EVE Actor Kim Bodnia as Vesemir
Lots of fans have been wondering who would end up being cast in the role of Geralt’s (Henry Cavill) mentor and surrogate father, Vesemir in Netflix’s The Witcher Season 2. Well, they’ve announced that Killing Eve actor Kim Bodnia will be filling that role.
The character was briefly teased in Season 1, which showed young Geralt first coming into contact with the famed Witcher and future mentor. There’s no word on if Bodina will also provide the voice of the character in the upcoming animated film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, the story of which will focus on Vesemir’s character.
If you aren’t familiar with the character, Vesemir of Kaer Morhen “was the oldest and most experienced witcher at Kaer Morhen in the 13th century and acted as a father figure to Geralt and the other witchers. Like many of the other witchers, he spent each winter in the fortress and set out on the path when spring arrived.”
It’s also explained that he “is the only one of the old witchers to survive the assault on Kaer Morhen, left for dead among the corpses of his fellows. However, as he was only a fencing instructor, he didn't possess the knowledge necessary to create new mutagens in order to mutate more boys into witchers.”
He is extremely protective of the Witchers that remain and he even develops a strong kinship with Ciri (Freya Allan) because of the close relationship she shares with Geralt.
The Witcher Season 2 is set to return in 2021, with the Nightmare of the Wolf animated movie being released before that.
Mark Hamill was campaigning for the role, which he would have been perfect for. While I’m not really familiar with Bodina, he was obviously cast for a reason and I’ll be looking forward to seeing his take on the character.
