Review: THE WORLD OF RWBY Is Fantastic for Fans

I love RWBY. I think it’s a fantastic show, and I cannot wait for Volume 7 to premiere in November. To help build up hype, Rooster Teeth and VIZ Media are releasing The World of RWBY: The Official Companion. I was lucky enough to get a copy, and I love it. It’s an interesting mix of behind-the-scenes and lore information.

The first chapter is all about the creation of RWBY and how Monty Oum pitched the show and how it grew. Next, there’s a chapter that talks all about the characters and their weapons. This section finally informed me who Tyrian is based on! That’s been driving me nuts for years, so I welcome the inside look. Third is a chapter all about the Grimm. I was actually shocked to see that Apathy were not based on the ReDeads from Zelda, (there was a lot from that episode that pointed to that being the case), but rather the story Bartleby, the Scrivener by Herman Melville. Fourth is a look at key points in the show and includes storyboards for some of the fights and the cast and crew talking about them. The final chapter is about how RWBY has grown. It includes photos of RWBY cosplayers and information about all the different things the show has created including merchandise, manga, YA novels, games, and more.

There’s no story to this book to critique, but if you’re a big fan of RWBY, this is a must-have. There’s a lot of information contained in it, and fans are sure to love what they find.

The World of RWBY will be available on October 8.
