The Writers for ENDGAME Had a Scene Where Clint and Natasha Talk About Their Relationship on the Way to Vormir

If you watched the Avengers films and Captain America: Civil War before Endgame, you probably had an inkling of the loving relationship shared by Black Widow and Hawkeye. This is what helps give the scene on Vormir such a punch as they fight with each other to be the sacrifice that saves everyone. It’s also how you know that Natasha has to be the one to bring Clint back for the time heist. Well, it turns out that the two almost had a scene in Endgame to help fans remember their friendship. Stephen McFeely told the Los Angeles Times at Comic-Con (around the 3-minute mark in the video below):

There was a scene between Natasha and Clint Barton en route to Vormir, so they leave Morag, and then they basically just have a long conversation while the Quinjet is on autopilot

We thought we needed it because it was gonna remind you that they shared a relationship, meaning that they loved each other, which is of course a prerequisite for what’s gonna happen on Vormir. It needed to have that relationship in order for the Soul Stone to be gotten. It turns out you do not need that, because you’ve watched all the movies, and you know they love each other. And they’re great actors, so it takes two lines and not an entire scene.

There are some other cool nuggets from the interview which is why I’ve included it below.
