The Writers of A QUIET PLACE Already Have Ideas For a Sequel, But Should There Even Be a Sequel?
John Krasinki's fantastic horror film A Quiet Place ended up being a huge success! The movie not only blew up at the box office, but it was also met with rave reviews. I thought that this was a perfect standalone movie that doesn't need any sequels. But, of course, now that it's a success, the studio is going to want to start a franchise and then bleed it dry because that's just the nature of the business.
The writers for the film Bryan Woods and Scott Beck are already developing ideas for a sequel and during a recent press conference for the film, Woods told Fandango:
"It’s such a fun world. There are so many things you could do."
Beck then went on to add:
“There are so many discarded set pieces, too, just hiding out on Word documents on our computer. So, yeah, there are certainly so many stories you could tell. It’s just really, at the end of the day, who are the characters in this and what does this situation mean to that dynamic?”
Yeah, there are plenty of story options to play with, but just because they can make a sequel, do you think that they should? I just would hate to see this great film end up being turned into the kind of horror film franchise that fans will start to roll their eyes at every time we see a new sequel announced. There seems to be a lot of people who look at the Saw and The Purge franchises in that light. But those same franchises also have big loyal fan bases that stick by them.
If a sequel does end up getting made, I'm sure it will be a success. I just hope that if they continue to make films set in this world that they actually continue to make great films. If that happens... awesome! It just seems like a rare thing.
What do you think? Would you like to see a sequel to A Quiet Place?
