There Are Two Completed Scripts for INDEPENDENCE DAY 2

Director Roland Emmerich is ready to move forward with his Independence Day sequel with or without Will Smith. In fact, he has two completed scripts ready to go, one that includes Smith's character, and one that doesn't. The director has met with the actor, but there's no word on how things are progressing with that. When asked about the status of the film, Emmerich told The Playlist,

"A daily battle ... The budget, the schedules, the actors … It's looking good."

When asked about Smith's involvement, he didn't really say much. He just confirmed that there are two scripts ready to go, when they find out if Smith takes the role or not. He did point out that Jamie Vanderbilt completed his work on the script and says that "It's looking good [for the version with Smith]."

There's still no information on the official plot of the film, but it's safe to assume that the aliens will be back to attack earth. Chronicle star Michael B. Jordan has been in talks to star in the film and will most likely join Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum.

At one point it was rumored that the movie would be split into two films, and when asked if that was still the plan, Emmerich said that was no longer the case.

"I thought about spending four years of my life on one movie and I didn't want to turn into something from the movie. It's a movie about aliens, I don't want to turn into an alien."
