There Were Discussions For Tom Welling To Play Superman in SUPERGIRL and He Explains Why He Didn't Do It

A lot of fans thought it would be really cool to see Tom Welling reprise his role of Superman in the current Supergirl series. Before the part went to Tyler Hoechlin, there were discussions with Welling to possibly reprise the role.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Welling explains why he ultimately ended up not doing it.

“I know Greg [Berlanti, executive producer] quite well and there had been some discussion, but they’re different worlds. There was an idea that maybe Supergirl, appearing on that, but it’s such a different show. I’m older now, I don’t look the same. Appearing on that show as Clark Kent or even Superman, for me, I would not want to watch me do that at all. They just have such a different tone."

He makes some good points, but the fans still would've loved it. They wouldn't have cared that Welling has aged over the years, but I can see why he would pass on the opportunity, and I don't blame him.

Welling may not be a part of the currently CW DC universe but, he is set to join Fox's Lucifer, which is a part of DC's Vertigo Comics. When commenting on that, the actor said:

“To me, because this is still even a DC Universe, which wasn’t a consideration in the beginning, but Lucifer is still DC, so in some ways it’s one foot in, one foot out, but it wasn’t a motivator for me to join the show. It just so happens that it was connected in that way.”

I think it's safe to say that we'll never see Tom Welling in the role of Superman ever again. It seems like he just wants to distance himself from that show as he moves forward in his career.
