There's an Animated STARSHIP TROOPERS Sequel Coming Featuring The Cast of the Original Film

Twenty years after the director Paul Verhoeven's original Starship Troopers film was released, fans will be getting an animated sequel! It's called Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars and it will even feature actors from the cast of the original film.

Casper Van Dien will reprise his role as Johnny Rico and Dina Meyer will be back as Dizzy Flores in the CG animated film. They will be joined by stand-up comedian and actor DeRay Davis. Those are the only cast members we've learned about so far.

One of the cooler things about this project is that the script was written by Ed Neumeier, who wrote the original Starship Troopers film as well as Verhoeven's Robocop. According to THR:

The movie sees Rico demoted and relocated to a satellite station on Mars, while the Federation moves to attack the home planet of the bugs — but Mars just so happens to be the target of a secret bug attack at the same time, and it falls to Rico and a group of new recruits to keep the planet safe while the Federation's fleet is far out of reach.

As part of the 20th anniversary of the release of the original film, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and Fathom Events are partnering for the one-night-only theatrical debut. Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars theater screenings will take place in nearly 500 select theaters across the country on Monday, August 21st. There will be two screenings at 7:30pm and 10pm.

Each screening will feature bonus material beyond the movie itself, with Neumeier and Van Dien introducing the movie, along with interviews with the filmmakers and behind-the-scenes footage. Tickets for the event will be available online starting June 19th.

I'm curious to see how this animated film turns out! I hope that it's executed well and that it tells a great story. We'll just have to wait and see. Knowing what you know about this upcoming sequel so far, are you excited for it?
