There's a BATMAN NINJA Anime Coming From The Creator of AFRO SAMURAI
It looks like a Batman anime film is in development! The movie is being created by Afro Samurai creator Takashi Okazaki and it will be called Batman Ninja! The project was revealed in an announcement for a panel taking place at New York Comic-Con for Warner Bros. Animation. Here's the description that was offered:
“Warner Bros. Japan and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment team for an eye-popping addition to the Batmananimated legacy with Batman Ninja, a spectacular, all-new anime film coming in 2018. Be among the first to witness the premiere of colorful footage from this imaginative take on Batman and many of his connected characters. Panelists will include director Jumpei Mizusaki, character designer Takashi Okazaki, screenwriter Kazuki Nakashima, English-language screenwriters Leo Chu & Eric Garcia and some potential special guests.”
There was another anime released in 2008 called Batman: Gotham Night, which included a segment called “Field Test” that was done in the style of anime. I believe that's the only time that Batman has been presented in the style of an anime.
This Batman Ninja project sounds like it could be really cool! I'm all for an anime that reimagines Batman as a ninja! With the talent that they have developing it, there's a good chance that it will turn out good. We'll learn more about it from the upcoming panel at NYCC next week, so stay tuned!
