There's a Big TERMINATOR Movie Announcement Coming This Year

Earlier this year we learned that the rights to The Terminator franchise were reverting back to James Cameron in 2019 and that he enlisted the help of Deadpool director Tim Miller to help develop a new film. That was pretty big news, but it sounds like we are going to get more big news regarding the Terminator franchise sometime this year.

After rumors surfaced that Paramount Pictures was ditching the Terminator franchise for good, Terminator: Genisys producer and head of Skydance, David Ellison, told Collider that there are Terminator plans in the works. He says:

“I will say we have resolved the future of the franchise and believe me its an incredibly bright future. I think where it’s going will be the continuation of what the fans really wanted since T2.
“We have something this year that we will be announcing for the franchise. It’s something we’re incredibly excited about and we think is the direction it needs to head.”

I have no idea if this will be the same project that Cameron is working on with Miller or if this will be a completely different project that the studio will try to pump out before Cameron takes over the franchise. If it's a "continuation of what the fans really wanted since T2," I imagine Cameron would have to be officially involved in some capacity because his involvement is what the fans want! He's the only one the fans trust with the franchise.

There hasn't been a great Terminator film since T2, and whatever Ellison and his team are planning to do with the franchise next, I hope it delivers on the promise of being something the fans want. I guess we'll find out sometime in the near future what is being planned and if Arnold Schwarzenegger will be involved.
