There’s a Deleted LOGAN Scene Involving Jean Grey That Took Things to a Dark Place
I still can’t get over how great Logan is. It’s easily one of the best films to come out this year so far. Like any film, there are a lot of things that were planned out and shot for Logan that ended up being cut out for one reason or another. Well, director James Mangold revealed that one of those scenes involved a conversation regarding Jean Grey, and in an interview with Empire he explained how that scene plays out:
“I sketched out different conversations for that dinner scene and one of them went to a much darker place. Mrs Munson asks Logan if he’s married, and Charles says he was – but he killed her. Of course, he wasn’t really married, but what that then spawns is Charles waxing poetic about Jean Grey, and it’s a really cool moment. Both Hugh and Patrick were amazing.”
That’s a heavy conversation with these two characters, and it confirms that Xavier did, in fact, kill Jean during the Westchester incident that was talked about in the movie. Mangold went on to explain why he decided to ultimately cut the scene:
“The problem was, it created an incredibly powerful lead brick in the middle of the only moment in the movie where there was a breather. Even I, with my taste for the dark, felt that it was one too many. Things go pretty shitty within seconds after that.”
I totally understand why the scene was cut, but I’d still love to see it play out and hear what Xavier says in this moment. We might even get that chance when Logan is released on Blu-ray. The director when on to tease:
“I think [the deleted scene] will make it to the Blu-ray.”
Hopefully, he puts it in there because I gotta see it!
