There's a JACK REACHER TV Series in Development

It looks like Lee ChildsJack Reacher book franchise in now being turned into a TV series. Tom Cruise played Jack Reacher in the two films produced by Paramount Pictures and while I thought he was great in the role and delivered two entertaining action-packed movies, we won’t be seeing anymore of them. The days of Cruise as Jack Reacher are over.

According to Childs, “We’re rebooting and starting over and we’re going to try and find the perfect guy.” For anyone familiar with the novels and the Jack Reacher character, then you know that Cruise didn’t fit the physicality for the role.

That doesn’t mean Childs didn’t like working with the actor, though. He told the BBC, “Cruise, for all his talent, didn’t have that physicality,” and then noted that actor’s smaller size threw off some of the core fans:

“I really enjoyed working with Cruise. He’s a really, really nice guy. We had a lot of fun. But ultimately the readers are right. The size of Reacher is really, really important and it’s a big component of who he is… So what I’ve decided to do is – there won’t be any more movies with Tom Cruise. Instead we’re going to take it to Netflix or something like that. Long-form streaming television, with a completely new actor.”

I think these Jack Reacher books will work better as a TV series anyway! Long form storytelling in the way to go for a series like this where there’s so much story to tell!

It’ll be interesting to see where the series lands. But whoever ends up producing the series, I hope they are able to give the series what it needs to be successful. I love the Jack Reacher character and he deserves a badass series!
