There's a New CRUEL INTENTIONS Series in Development at IMDb TV
IMDb TV is developing a new TV series inspired by the 1999 film Cruel Intentions, which was based on the novel Dangerous Liaisons. This isn’t the first time that there’s been an attempt to adapt Cruel Intentions into a series. Back in 2016, NBC ordered a pilot episode with Sarah Michelle Gellar reprising her role of Kathryn Merteuil. Obviously, the series never got picked up.
Then in 2001 Fox attempted to develop a prequel series, three episodes of that series were produced before it was cancelled. Those episodes were edited into the direct-to-video film Cruel Intentions 2 in 2001. In 2004 Cruel Intentions 3 was released.
The new series will be rooted in the original source material and the story follows two ruthless step siblings who “will do anything to stay on top. In this case, of the Greek life hierarchy at an elite Washington, D.C. college. After a brutal hazing incident threatens the entire Panhellenic system, they’ll do whatever’s necessary to preserve their power and reputations — even seduce the daughter of the Vice President of the United States.”
This latest version of the series is being written and executive produced by Phoebe Fisher with Sara Goodman. The two met while working on IKWYDLS. Fisher made her debut feature as a writer on Down Low, which recently wrapped production. They are also currently developing the feature Orange Crush.
Neal H. Moritz, who was a producer on the original film, will produce alongside Pavun Shetty, who executive produced the NBC pilot.
Who knows, maybe this attempt to produce a Cruel Intentions TV series will actually work out.
