There's a Reboot of THE EXORCIST Reportedly in the Works

Buried in a recent article report from Deadline regarding Rachel Weisz’s series reboot of Dead Ringers, it’s mentioned that Morgan Creek is developing a reboot of The Exorcist that will arrive in 2021. This is the first time I’ve heard that this is a project that is actually in development.

The Exorcist was originally released in 1973. It was directed by William Friedkin, and it scared the living shit out of people at the time. The first time I saw it when I was growing up, I had the most terrifying nightmares for a month. That movie messed me up.

We don’t have any details to offer in regards to the reboot, but back in 2015 Morgan Creek Productions rebranded into Morgan Creek Entertainment Group and began selling off and developing several of its library titles for reboots, sequels, or remakes.

When people started freaking out about the possibility of seeing a remake of The Exorcist at the time, they sent out the following tweet:

Well, I guess they had a change of heart. I think most people consider reboots and remakes the same thing. They both have the same kind of negative reaction from fans when the word is attached to a classic movie. The fact of the matter is when a film is rebooted or remade it will feature the same narrative as the original film.

It pointless rebooting The Exorcist. It just won’t be the same, and it won’t be as terrifying as that original film was. It also won’t have the same effect on audiences. When the original film came out no one had never seen anything like it before. Now we are seeing these kinds of movies made all the time.

What do you all think about The Exorcist being rebooted?
