There's an ESCAPE ROOM Sequel in Development and It Has a Release Date
The first Escape Room movie was ok. It had some fun and enjoyable moments, but for the most part it was a forgettable film. Regardless of that, the movie was made on a $9 million budget and brought in around $119 million at the box office. So, it was a big success ,and now Columbia Pictures is developing a sequel so they can continue to cash in on the horror franchise.
According to Deadline, Adam Robitel is coming back to direct along with returning writer Bragi F. Schut and producer Neal H. Moritz. They also announce that Escape Room 2 will hit theaters on April 17th, 2020.
Escape Room centered on six people who are brought together and find themselves in a maze of deadly rooms. To survive, they must use their wits, skills, and talents to find the clues to get out of the rooms or die. As you might imagine, lots of people die.
There are no plot details for Escape Room 2, but the first film was left open for a sequel, and it will involve another escape room that people will be forced to survive. The surviving characters of the first film will also be involved because that’s how the end of the first movie set up the sequel.
Did you like Escape Room? What do you think about the studio making a sequel? I’m sure this sequel won’t be the last.
